Washington New Church would love to have you join us at any of our worship services. Our church teaches that the most important way people worship the Lord is by living according to His commandments in their daily lives. The goal of our worship services is to provide time for people to humble themselves before the Lord, raise their minds above daily tasks, learn from the Word, and pray and sing with other people.   In order to maintain a reverent sphere of worship,  for all of our services, silence is observed in the sanctuary.

Regular Sunday Services:

Weekly Sunday worship service begins at 11:00 a.m. The first part of the service is for families, and an address suited to the children is given during this time. The younger children are welcome to come and sit at the front of the church for this talk.  After the children's talk and a benediction, parents take their children to the nursery or the Sunday School.  A sermon is given for the adults during the latter half of the service.

Sunday School

The purpose of Sunday School is to familiarize children with the stories of the Bible and to instill in them an affection for those stories.

  • Nursery - children under age four.
  • Primary - children from ages seven through third grade.
  • Advanced - children from fourth through sixth grade.
  • Seniors - children in grades seven and eight. After eighth grade, young people are expected to remain for the adult portion of the service.

Informal Family Service - Monthly Service - This service begins at 9:30 am and is held once a month in the all-purpose room. Dress is less formal, if you wish, and the format of the service includes a greater degree of interaction between the minister and the congregation.

Holiday Services

Thanksgiving Family Service - For this service, the congregation is invited to bring offerings of fruit as a token of gratitude to the Lord for all He has given us.  After the opening of the Word, during the second hymn, the people come forward by way of the center aisle to present their fruit to the minister.  They then return to their seats by way of  the side aisles. One address is given, and this is adapted by the minister to suit all ages.  There is no Sunday School and no one on duty in the nursery, although the nursery room is available if needed.

Christmas Tableaux Service - A series of nativity scenes are represented on the chancel by members of the congregation.   While each scene is being shown, a minister reads the story it portrays from the Word. Christmas hymns and special music are included. Following this service, all are invited to join in a Christmas Sing in the all-purpose room.

Christmas Eve Service - The minister presents one address for all ages at this candle-lit family service.

Christmas Day Service - This is a "regular" service, with a children's talk and a sermon for adults. Please note that  there is no Sunday School or nursery care offered on this day.

Palm Sunday Service - This is a "regular" service with a children's talk and a sermon for adults. However, you may pick up a palm branch as you enter the church and carry it  forward to lay it on the chancel during the first hymn.

Thursday Evening (before Easter) Service - this is a service for adults, with extended lessons from the Easter story and an opportunity for all to partake of the Holy Supper (link) (Communion) in memory of the Lord's "Last Supper."

Easter Service - This is a "regular" service, with a children's talk and a sermon for adults.   The congregation is invited to bring floral offerings to celebrate the Lord's resurrection. During the second hymn, the people may come forward by way of the center aisle to present their flowers to the minister.  They then will return to their seats by way of the side aisles.  Both Sunday School and Nursery care are offered.

New Church Day Service (held on the Sunday nearest June 19th) - This is a "regular" service, with Sunday School and Nursery care for the children. Following the service, the Pastor presents special gifts from the Church to each of the children.
